This hot fudge sauce will take your ice cream sundae to a new level. It’s super easy to make, using just a few ingredients that you may already have in your kitchen.

1 ½ cups sugar
¾ cup cocoa powder

1 cup heavy cream, whipping cream or whole milk
½ cup butter
2 teaspoons vanilla
¼ teaspoon salt

Heat the sugar, cocoa powder and cream in a saucepan, stirring until smooth. Bring to a boil (you will see air bubbles rise to the surface). Add the butter and boil for 5 minutes until thickened, stirring occasionally so the chocolate doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan. Remove from heat and add the vanilla and salt, stirring until blended. Allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving with ice cream.

You can keep the sauce refrigerated in an airtight jar. Heat in a saucepan when ready to use.
